AEP Warnings

AEP Texas continues to request conservation measures and asks customers who lose power to switch off their large appliances such as the heating and a/c systems, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers. Taking this action will reduce the possibility that breakers will trip again as power is restored to groups of customers more efficiently during the forecasted cold weather.

In the meantime, AEP Texas is requesting conservation measures over the next few days especially during the 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. time slots. The request is based on possible challenges in restoration of service following distribution outages due to the cold weather.

Customers are asked to take the following measures:

- Set thermostats at 68 degrees or cooler; so, heating/air conditioning systems are not using as much electricity.

- Close blinds and curtains to keep heat inside.

- Delay use of large appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and dryers.

- Turn off lights in rooms not being used.

The AEP Texas recently-launched mobile application (app) is a very effective way of reporting and monitoring power outages.  The application is free of charge to download at the following internet locations:

Direct Apple App Store Link
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aep-texas/id1263464775?ls=1&mt=8

Direct Google Play Link

The app provides easy access for reporting or monitoring outage information and complements the information provided by the AEP Texas Outage map, as well as AEP Texas Mobile Alerts. To learn more go to www.aeptexas.com and access the Outages & Problems area.  An important point to remember that the best way to ensure that AEP Texas is aware of an outage is by using the mobile app or calling 1 866 223-8508.  Mentioning an outage on social media does not mean the outage has been recorded into the AEP Texas outage system.

The request for conservation from AEP Texas is prompted by the possibility of “cold load” issues associated with restoration of service following outages during the current weather conditions. The request was not prompted by a Bulk Electric System Emergency directive from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
