The Harlingen High School Women’s Varsity Choir receives top honors with an invitation to sing at the Texas Music Educator’s Association conference in San Antonio. During the summer, choir directors from around the state submit choir recordings that undergo a strict judging process, and only the top choir is invited to perform a concert. The Harlingen High School Women’s Varsity Choir under the direction of Denise Pitcock and George Torres will represent Harlingen as the state’s top women’s choir.
“Being asked to perform at the TMEA convention is one of the highest honors a choir and choir director can achieve. It demonstrates that many exemplary components of the music program are working at the highest levels,” said Harlingen CISD Music Director Roger Harms.
Pitcock said, “I am grateful to work at a district that truly supports its choir and music programs from the school board to the campus administrators, but the true honor belongs to the hard work and dedication of our girls – they want to excel.”
Last year, 26,000 people attended the TMEA convention which is the largest state music convention in the United States. The Harlingen High School Women’s Choir will perform Thursday, February 11th at the Texas Ballroom of the San Antonio Grand Hyatt Hotel next to the convention center at 3:30 p.m.
