GRAND JURY INDICTS SAN BENITO MAN FOR DOUBLE MURDER

A Cameron County Grand Jury indicted San Benito resident Mario Gonzalez, 46, Wednesday for killing his estranged wife and her friend last month.

Gonzalez stabbed Lorena Gonzalez, 42, and Homero de los Santos, 38, numerous times at a San Benito residence.

De los Santos also sustained blunt-force trauma to the head.

An anonymous tip to the Texas Ranger just days after the double murder led Cameron County Sheriff’s Office investigators to the residence where the mutilated bodies of Lorena Gonzalez and De los Santos were found in the bathroom.

According to witness statements, the victims were last seen on June 17.

Mario Gonzalez failed to appear in court July 2 for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon he previously committed against Lorena Gonzalez.

A warrant for his arrest was issued at that time.

Mario Gonzalez remains at large.

Individuals with information on his whereabouts may call the District Attorney’s Office
