EDINBURG, Texas—Vincent Blue led the Edinburg Roadrunners to an 8-5 victory over the McAllen Thunder Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium snapping their two-game losing streak.

Blue finished the night 4-for-6 with two runs scored, two runs batted in and two stolen bases leading the way as Edinburg smashed out 15 hits.

The Roadrunners (49-31) got the scoring started in the top of the first with a bases loaded walk to Felix Molina that allowed Wilmer Pino to score making it 1-0.

A couple of errors in the bottom of the first helped the Thunder (29-52) score three runs giving them the lead 3-1.

Edinburg answered back in the top of the second as they sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on six hits.  The inning was highlighted with Blue’s two-run single.

Tim Battle gave the Roadrunners some cushion in the top of the fifth with an RBI triple down the right field line and then a throwing error allowed Battle to score extending the lead 7-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, McAllen got an RBI ground out from Cristobal Santana and then two batters later Davis Page hit an RBI single that scored Yasser Gomez cutting the Roadrunners lead 7-5.

After Edinburg added a run in the top of the eighth, Robert Roth pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season giving the Roadrunners the 8-5 victory.

Miguel Martinez (10-4) pitched eight innings and allowed five runs but only two were earned as he struck out seven.

The Roadrunners and Thunder play game two of their four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.  Matison Smith (7-4) is expected to face Alexei Perez (3-5) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
