EDINBURG, Texas— The Edinburg Roadrunners could not find an answer for McAllen starter Frank James as they fell to the Thunder 10-3 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
James (5-5) allowed two early runs but settled down to allow three runs in eight innings with three strike outs.
Edinburg (39-23) grabbed the early lead after Wilmer Pino delivered a two-run double that scored Stantrel Smith and Vincent Blue making it 2-0.
In the bottom of the second and the bases loaded, McAllen (23-40) got a three-run double from Craig Hertler giving them the 3-2 advantage.
After the Thunder added two runs in the bottom of the third, the Roadrunners picked up a run in the top of the fifth. With runners at first and second, Pascual Del Real stole third but the throw got away and allowed him to score making it 5-3 in favor of McAllen.
The Thunder added to their lead with four more runs in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth as Kurt Houck recorded the final three outs in the top of the ninth giving them the 10-3 victory.
Dave Dinelli (3-7) took the loss after he allowed eight runs, seven earned, in six innings with three strike outs.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will wrap up their series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Ryan Smith (3-3) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
