A 21 year old Matamoros man was arrested and charged for possession of 57.75 pounds of marihuana

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA-2ND DEGREE FELONY

WEDNESDAY JUNE 27, 2012

On Tuesday June 26, 2012, at 1630 Hrs, A San Benito Police Investigator assigned to the ICE Task Force received a call from US Customs and Border Protection Agents assigned to the Gateway International port of entry in Brownsville in reference to a narcotic seizure.

Officers from the San Benito Police Department responded to said location and upon their arrival, contact was made with US Customs agents who stated that earlier in the afternoon 21 year old Rafael Campos Arratia from Matamoros, Mx. had attempted to enter the US driving a white 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier with Mexico plates.

The vehicle was then referred to a secondary inspection where a K-9 unit alerted to the driver side front quarter panel.

After further inspection a total of 42 small brown bundles of marijuana where found in the quarter panel area.

The contraband seized gave an estimated weight of 57.75 Lbs. and did not meet

Federal threshold for prosecution.

US Customs then notified the San Benito Police for State prosecution.

Rafael Campos Arratia was then placed under arrest, and transported to the San Benito City Jail where he was booked on Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree Felony. Contraband and vehicle were seized by the San Benito Police.

Rafael Campos Arratia was arraigned by Municipal Judge Adolfo Cordova who set

bond at $20,000. Rafael Campos Arratia was later transported to the Cameron County Jail with an immigration detainer from ICE.
