FORT WORTH, Texas— Carlos Hereaud drove in five runs with two triples to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Fort Worth Cats 10-4 Saturday night at LaGrave Field.
Hereaud delivered a three-run triple in the top of the first and a two-run triple in the top of the sixth.
Along with the three-run triple, the Roadrunners (9-8) got an RBI single from Derek Perren that scored Hereaud to make it 4-0.
Fort Worth (11-5) got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Chad Gabriel that drove in Randal Thorpe cutting the Roadrunners lead to 4-1.
A fielding error in the top of the fourth allowed Edinburg to extend their lead as Osiel Flores came in to score to make it 5-1.
The Cats got a run back in the bottom of the fourth as a double play allowed R.J. Harris to score from third to making the score 5-2.
Rusty Jones (1-0) picked up the win after pitching two and two-third innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two.
In the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly by Wilmer Pino added another run for the Roadrunners. With runners on the corners, Hereaud delivered a two-run triple down the third base line that allowed Stantrel Smith and Vincent Blue to score pushing their lead 8-2.
Two bases loaded walks for the Cats in the bottom of the seventh cut the Roadrunners lead in half 8-4.
Edinburg added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth with a two-run single by Cristobal Santana that made it 10-4 Roadrunners.
Paul Koss closed out the game with a scoreless ninth giving Edinburg the 10-4 victory.
The Roadrunners and the Cats will wrap up their two-game series Sunday night at LaGrave Field with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
