March-April 2012 Programs

Bayside Tram Tours: Enjoy a 2 ½ hour guided tour on our open air tram. $, tickets at visitor center. January – March; Sun, Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat 1pm-3:30pm; Sat and Sun 4 – 6:30 pm; Friday 9:30 – 12

Bird Tours: A van will shuttle you to some refuge birding hot spots. Tours alternate between Laguna Atascosa and Bahia Grande. Reservations, $. January – March; Thursdays 8:30am – 11:30am

Forest and Lake Bird Walks: Search for forest and freshwater birds with a guide. Free with entrance fee of $3 per vehicle. January – March; Wednesdays and Fridays 9am – 11am

Nature Van Tours: Explore the back roads of the refuge with a guide. Reservations, $. March – April, Tuesdays 9 – 12

Native Plant Walks: Discover the human and wildlife uses of the plants of the thornscrub forest. Free with entrance fee of $3 per vehicle. January – March; Wednesdays and Saturdays, 11 – 12.

Gator Tours: Get the facts about these amazing creatures and search for them in their native habitats. Free with entrance fee of $3 per vehicle. February – August; Sundays 2 – 4.

Twilight Tram Tour: See which animals become active at dusk and after dark on this 2 ½ hour guided tour on our open air tram. Bring binoculars and jackets. $, tickets at visitor center. Second Saturday of the month, April – September, call for time. 956-748-3607.

Viva the Ocelot! Family Fiesta – Celebrate the ocelot in true south Texas style. Games, music, live ocelot shows and souvenirs. April 20, 5 – 9 pm at Marine Military Academy in Harlingen. $5 adults, $3 ages 4-12, Ages 3 and under FREE.

Family Fish Camp: Learn the basics of fishing from experienced anglers. FREE, more info and register at www.fishingsfuture.org . April 28, 9:30 – 2:30. Held at Adolph Thomae County Park.
