Arson with bodily injury

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded east of Tower on FM 495, turn N. to 1026 Valley Blvd, in Alamo, Texas in reference to arson with bodily injury, victim Maria Castaneda who sustained 2nd degree burns to her left ankle and her lower right leg.  

Victim was taken to McAllen Medical Center and then transported to Army Brook Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Nancy Briseno (victim’s daughter) stated that she had been inside her bedroom when she heard someone banging on the front door and looked out her bedroom window to see her mother’s ex boyfriend, Juan Carlos Sanchez, banging on the front door and yelling for Maria to let him inside.  Nancy then saw Juan Carlos grab a plastic gas container and then lost sight of him as he walked around to the north side of the mobile home.  Nancy then discovered the residence was on fire.  Fire officials responded to location.  Victim is expected to recover. 

A warrant has been issued for Juan Carlos Sanchez/ D.O.B 8-25-66. 

Further investigation revealed that suspect has an outstanding warrant from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office for a 2010 Criminal Capital Murder.
