Brownsville, Texas – February 2, 2012 – Armando R. Villalobos, County and District Attorney for Cameron County, announces today that a Cameron County jury sentenced Albert Cleveland Stafford, 51, of Brownsville, Texas, to life in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division for the murder of Ricardo Martinez.
Stafford was found guilty yesterday after the jury deliberated for 25 minutes.
“We are pleased with the verdict and feel strongly that justice was served,” County and District Attorney Armando R. Villalobos said. “This verdict has ensured that the community is safer.”
Assistant County and District Attorneys Stephanie Rollins and Brandy Bailey represented the State of Texas and presented evidence and arguments during a three day jury trial in the 445th Judicial District Court.
Martinez, 58, was stabbed by Stafford in March 2010 who died a month later from complications of the stab wounds. Stafford was arrested by the Brownsville Police Department.
According to the police records, Martinez was found in a pool of blood in his home on West Levee Street.
