Hidalgo County detention officer fired for False Identification as a Peace Officer and Unlawful Carrying of a weapon by License Holder

Hidalgo County –On Sunday, January 22, 2012 Hidalgo County Detention Officer Gabriel Miranda worked an unauthorized off-duty security detail at Club Phoenix in McAllen, Texas.  

At approximately 12:49a.m, McAllen PD responded to Club Phoenix in reference to a possible disturbance.  

McAllen PD made contact with Gabriel Miranda and observed that he was wearing a black t-shirt with the word “POLICE” in white lettering and a visible Berretta 9 mm handgun in a holster.  

Gabriel Miranda was placed under arrest after it was discovered that he was not a commissioned peace officer.  

Gabriel Miranda was transported to the McAllen Police Department where he was charged with False Identification as a Peace Officer (class “B” Misdemeanor), and Unlawful Carrying of a weapon by License Holder (3rd Degree Felony).  

On the same date, Gabriel Miranda was placed on administrative leave with pay pending internal investigation.  

On Tuesday, January 24, 2012 Gabriel Miranda was fired by Sheriff Lupe Trevino, after the internal investigation revealed that he violated HCSO policy and procedures.
