ARREST of Auto Thieves @ Salvage Yard

Brownsville police department news brief. 

ARRESTS: On Monday, June 13, 2011, members of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrested Rigoberto Velasquez, age 38, after he confessed in having participated in the Theft & Unauthorized Use of the following motor vehicles: 

AUTO THEFT:  On June 7, 2011,   Vehicle: 1994 Chevy 1500 pickup Texas lps 83NPJ7, at 375 Billy Mitchell, Apt #209, Brownsville, Texas  - Case #11061125 

AUTO THEFT:  On June 10, 2011, Vehicle: 1992 Chevy 1500 pickup Texas lps 1FR400, at 1804 W. Jefferson Street, Brownsville, Texas  - Case #11061612 

AUTO THEFT:  On June 12, 2011, Vehicle: 1984 Chevy Silverado pickup Texas lps 8BL Z09, at 2454 Price Rd., Apt. 178, Brownsville, Texas – Case #11061977 

AUTO THEFT: On June 12, 2011, Vehicle: 1991 Buick Century Texas lps G42FXW, at 905 Nispero Ln Brownsville, Texas – Case #11062023 

Note:  Also arrested were Rigoberto’s girlfriend, Oralia Cepeda, age 39, and her son-in-law, Juan Vicente Arrellano, age 19. The trio was arrested as they were attempting to dispose of the vehicles for cash at a local Salvage Yard. Suspects were charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity – Bonds were set as follows: Velasquez’s bond $150,000, Cepeda’s bond $80,000,

Arrellano’s bond $180,000.
