Gov. Rick Perry today encouraged young Texans to apply themselves to the challenges of leadership, both in the classroom and beyond. The governor spoke to participants of the University of Texas at Austin’s Subiendo – The Academy for Rising Leaders at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.
“Our state’s continued success depends on the combined efforts of all Texans,” Gov. Perry said. “These young Texans have had the opportunity to hear speakers, study issues, and engage in conversations that will not only shape their perspective, but have great significance to the future of our state.”
Created by UT and organized by the LBJ School of Public Affairs Center for Politics and Governance and the Texas Exes, Subiendo helps prepare young leaders to address the needs of the next generation. Participants are rising high school seniors and are selected through an application process to attend the free academy, which is funded through private philanthropy.
