DPS Offers Increased Reward, Seeks Leads in 1983 Harris County Murder

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is asking for the public’s help in solving the 1983 murder of Susan Lee Eads, and an increased reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible if the tip is received before next month’s featured case is announced. (A $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest is routinely offered on all cases on the Texas Rangers’ Unsolved Homicides website.)

DPS Graduates Three New Canine Teams

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today graduated three Troopers and three canines from an eight-week training program. These canine teams will join 42 other DPS teams stationed throughout Texas, including six explosive-detection teams stationed in Austin.

Reward Offered for Most Wanted Fugitive from Amarillo

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Carlos Rafael Benitez, 29, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list, and a cash reward of up to $5,000 is now being offered for information leading to his capture. Benitez is wanted for failing to appear in court on charges of aggravated assault of a public servant and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.

Historic Port Isabel Lighthouse Reopens

AUSTIN— Standing tall in a plaza overlooking the lower Laguna Madre, the historic 72-foot Port Isabel Lighthouse is reopening its doors to visitors after much needed repairs closed the site to the public in early 2016.

Congressman Gonzalez Nominates Students to U.S. Service Academies

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is pleased to announce today that 17 students in the 15th District of Texas have received nominations to attend the U.S. Service Academies. Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive Arrested in California

AUSTIN – Blake Everett Reed, 32, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, is now in custody after being captured Sunday afternoon in California. Reed was wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, harassment of public servant, assault of public servant, assault, and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle. The arrest was not the result of tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers, and no reward will be paid.
