Updated DPS Driver Handbook Now Available

AUSTIN – Effective Sept. 1, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Driver Handbook was revised and transitioned to a printable, online-only format. Handbook revisions include information on texting while driving and several other clarifications passed by the Texas Legislature during the 85th Legislative Session.

Former Border Patrol Agent Sentenced for Making a False Statement

McALLEN, Texas ‐ A former Border Patrol (BP) agent has been ordered to prison for making a false statement regarding a narcotics seizure, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Abe Martinez. Eduardo Bazan, 49, of Edinburg, pleaded guilty June 30, 2017.

National Public Lands Day – Bahia Grande Shoreline Clean Up

Celebrate National Public Lands Day September 30, 8:00 am – 10:00 am, at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge by assisting the refuge in cleaning up trash along the Bahia Grande Unit. Participants will meet at the paved parking area on State Highway 48, 5 miles south of State Highway 100 in Port Isabel.

Refuge Seeks Input on Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to re-open Bayside Wildlife Drive for public vehicle access on Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge

Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge), in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) proposing to re-open Bayside Wildlife Drive with certain improvements to address concerns over ocelot-vehicle collisions on this wildlife drive. The public is being invited to review this document.
