Wildflower Seeds Spur Pollinator Gardens by Girls Scouts of Greater South Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – July 12, 2017 — Monarchs will have a lot more native nectar plants drawing them to the Rio Grande Valley this fall and next spring thanks to packages of wildflower seeds which “planted” the idea for pollinator gardens by the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas.

Pharr Man Sentenced in Absentia for Hostage Taking Conspiracy

McALLEN, Texas – A 21-year-old Pharr man has been sentenced to life in federal prison following his convictions of conspiracy to commit hostage taking and conspiracy to transport undocumented aliens, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Abe Martinez. A federal jury sitting in McAllen convicted Luis Gerardo Betancourt in absentia following a five-day trial and less than three hours of deliberation on March 30, 2017. Also sentenced today were 25-year-old Mexican citizen Luis Enrique Perez-Talavera and Jonathan Carlos Valdez-Harris, 22, of Phar, who had both previously pleaded guilty.

Reward Offered for Most Wanted Sex Offender from Corpus Christi

AUSTIN –The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Erasmo Zapata, 45, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list, and a cash reward of up to $5,000 is now being offered for information leading to his capture. Zapata is wanted for parole violation. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.

Reminder: Reward Increased to $10,000 for Most Wanted Fugitive

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding the public that the reward for Jose Fernando Bustos-Diaz, 28, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and this month’s featured fugitive, has been increased to $10,000 for information leading to his capture if the tip comes in during the month of July. Bustos-Diaz, who is a convicted murderer, is wanted for escape and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.
