FARENTHOLD RELEASE: House Files Civil Suit Against AG Holder Over Fast and Furious Documents

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform filed a civil suit against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to compel the production of documents, relating to Operation Fast and Furious, listed in their October 11, 2011 Congressional subpoena. The suit also requests the court to rule that executive privilege does not apply to the documents requested by the Committee. Congressman Blake Farenthold (TX-27) had the following comments:

Convicted Felon Sentenced for Possessing a Firearm

McALLEN, Texas – Alexis Nazareth Mendez, 22, of Edinburg, Texas, has been sentenced to prison for illegal possession of a firearm, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited by federal law of possessing a firearm. He pleaded guilty May 30, 2012.

A 59 year old man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after stabbing another man in the face; 2 San Benito women arrested and charged for shoplifting at J. C. Penny’s and Anna’s Linen; A 30 year old Brownsville man was arrested and charged with 2 counts of fraudulent use, possession of identifying information, credit card abuse and possession of a controlled substance after attempting to buy $6,658 of building materials; A Raymondville man and a woman arrested and charged for felony theft, aggravated robberies at Victoria’s secret, HEB and J. C. Penny’s plus failure to identify; An 18 year old woman and a 14 year old female juvenile arrested for shoplifting at Kmart.
