A 42 year old man arrested and charged for sexual abuse of a child against his 14 year old daughter, bond was set at $400,000; A 26 year old woman was arrested and charged for theft after shoplifting at J. C. Penny’s; A 49 year old man arrested and charged for felony driving while intoxicated after 5 previous convictions.

Right to DREAM: Educational Forum

Brownsville police department news brief 8-7-12

On Friday, August 3, 2012, CID investigators detained and charged the last of the three (3) males juveniles that were implicated in the extensive Vandalism/Graffiti (over $3,000. in damages – State Jail Felony) done to businesses along the Brownsville Linear Bike Trail. Investigators were able to identify the respondents by surveillance video. Offenses occurred during the months of June & July 2012.

TSTC SCHOLARSHIP WINNER JUMPS INTO ENGINEERING

After graduating from Harlingen High School South on May 26 she took a week off and then began summer semester speech and algebra classes at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Harlingen, where she is an engineering major. She graduated from Harlingen South as a Texas Scholar and became the first-ever recipient of the Presidential Scholarship worth $2,100.

Mural Dedication

The University of Texas-Pan American, the City of San Juan and the UTPA Mexican American Studies (MAS) program will host the dedication of the mural “Braceros: A Legacy of Triumph,” which was authorized by the City of San Juan to be executed on the north-facing wall of the city’s municipal pool to honor the farm workers, primarily from Mexico, who were brought in under the contract worker program from 1942 to 1964 to work farmlands in Texas, California and Arizona, among others.
