Washington, DC—Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX) helped pass a disaster aid package that will provide $383 million in drought relief to farmers and producers, while also cutting the federal deficit by $256 million. This package, called the Agricultural Disaster Assistance Act, will provide disaster assistance for producers of livestock, fruits and vegetables, whose access to disaster relief has been compromised by the inability of the House of Representatives to pass a full five-year farm bill package. Over 75% of agriculture producers in the United States are currently being affected by drought.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Two men and one woman have been charged with aiding, abetting and assisting one another in dealing and manufacturing firearms without a federal license, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. The seven-count sealed indictment, returned July 25, 2012, was unsealed upon the arrests of Michael Yarbrough, 22, Ashley Phillips, 24, and Stephen Atkinson, 29, all of Corpus Christi.
AUSTIN – At the urging of the 82nd Texas Legislature, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has developed a secure online prescription monitoring program, called Prescription Access in Texas (PAT), which provides controlled substance prescription dispensing history to authorized health care and law enforcement professionals. DPS officially launched PAT in June 2012, at which time the database became available to a select group of practitioners, pharmacists and law enforcement professionals. This week, DPS has extended program access to additional physicians and law enforcement, mid-level practitioners, medical board and nursing board investigators.
