Leader of Straw Purchasing Cell Gets 10 Years in Federal Prison ‪

MCALLEN, Texas – The leader of a straw purchasing cell and another defendant have just been handed significant sentences for their respective roles in the recruiting of others to make false statements on Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) forms 4473 in the acquisition of firearms from federal firearms licensees (FFL), United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Felix Torre, 26, of Pharr, Texas, and Izaha Saenz, 24, of San Juan, Texas, each pleaded guilty to one count of straw purchasing. Torres was also convicted of being a felon in possession of firearms.

Federal Jury Convicts Lopeno Man of Transporting Illegal Aliens

‪McALLEN, Texas – Enrique Gonzalez-Cavazos, 41, a legal permanent resident of Lopeno, Texas, has been found guilty of three counts of transporting illegal aliens within the United States, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. The verdicts were returned just a short time ago following two days of trial and approximately two hours of deliberation.

A Harlingen man and a San Benito woman arrested and charged separately for assault/family/house member impede breath/circulation and assault with bodily injury; A 20 year old man arrested and charged for accident involving serious bodily injury; A 31 year old woman was arrested and charged for intoxication assault with a motor vehicle; A 24 year old man arrested and charged for assault/family violence after assaulting his father.

Brownsville man arrested for indecent exposure

Case #12071111  Jose Alberto Torres was arrested on July 25th, 2012 on a warrant for indecent exposure. On July 9th he was seen masturbating while driving in the parking lot of the HEB on Paredes Line Rd. The two witnesses who were employees identified him as having dreadlocks.    

CUELLAR APPLAUDS USDA DECISION TO STREAMLINE FOOD INSPECTION SITE APPROVAL PROCESS

Washington, DC—Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX) applauded the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) recent decision to issue a rule change that will benefit McAllen and other border areas by streamlining the approval process for certain food inspection sites. Cuellar has worked extensively with the USDA and the City of McAllen to secure this rule change, which clears the way for the filing of an application for a new food inspection site in McAllen. This project is projected to create 494 jobs and bring an investment of $20 million to the McAllen area.
