Crime down in the city of Harlingen?

The Harlingen Police Department has recently compiled its mid-year statistical information on crime and is excited to report a 20% decrease in violent crime, a 19% decrease in property crime, and a 19% decrease in overall UCR crime as compared to the same time period of the previous year.

Crime Rate in Texas Drops for Second Consecutive Year

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced that for the second consecutive year the major crime rate in Texas has dropped significantly. According to data compiled by the DPS Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program that was released in the Annual Report of 2011 UCR Data Collection, the overall crime rate – the number of crimes per 100,000 people in Texas – decreased by 8.3 percent in 2011.


Laredo, TX—As part of his continued leadership of efforts to secure Mexico’s inclusion in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo), Chair of the Pro-Trade Caucus, today sent a bipartisan letter encouraging U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk to formally notify Congress of the intent to include Mexico in the TPP agreement. The TPP is a free trade agreement aimed at facilitating U.S. trade engagement in the Asia-Pacific region’s huge and growing markets.

Tip Leads to Arrest of Most Wanted Fugitive in Overton

AUSTIN – William Darrell Richardson, 46, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, has been captured in Overton (Rusk County) after investigators followed up on a tip. The tipster will receive a $5,000 cash reward for providing information that led to the apprehension. Two other Most Wanted fugitives were also recently arrested – one on June 28 in Lubbock and the other on June 29 in Odessa. In 2012, DPS and other agencies have arrested 20 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including 14 gang members, and $45,500 in rewards has been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.
