LAREDO, TX— Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) announced his support for a new federal border initiative targeted at helping communities in the southwest border region confront chronic poverty. The “Border Community Capital Initiative” (known as the “Border Initiative”) is a collaborative effort of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Rural Development (USDA-RD) and the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund). The purpose of the initiative is to increase capital in the U.S./Mexico border region, an area that includes some of the poorest communities in the country.

Sex Offender Added to Most Wanted List

AUSTIN –The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has added Mark Anthony Gasaway Jr., 26, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list, and a $2,000 cash reward is now offered for information leading to his capture. He has been wanted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office since December 2010 for felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. All tips can be offered anonymously.

The Weslaco Police Department needs your help to catch a pair of suspects that assaulted a man and left him on the side of the road with serious injuries.

UPDATE: BURGLARY OF VEHICLE & CREDIT CARD ABUSE

The Weslaco Police Department needed help to catch a man and woman who allegedly used a stolen credit card to purchase some Easter baskets. The case started with a vehicle that was burglarized at the Paradise Roadhouse Bar & Grill the night of April 7th. The victim’s purse which contained her credit card and other items was stolen from the vehicle.

A 17 year old man arrested and charged by Brownsville police for sexual assault

On 05/29/11, Officers responded to a 911 hang up call that came from the 900 block of Media Luna. As the officers responded, a second call came in and officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of N. Expressway where the victim of a possible sexual assault was located.
