Edinburg, Texas — Designated hitter Mike Goss drove in the game-tying and winning runs to lead the McAllen Thunder to victory over the Abilene Prairie Dogs on Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium by score of 5-4. The Prairie Dogs (5-9) got on the board courtesy of Wilson Batista triple and a throwing allowed him to score the game’s opening run in the seventh inning.


HARLINGEN, Texas— Miguel Martinez pitched a complete game shutout as he pitched the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 4-0 Thursday night at Harlingen Field. Martinez (2-2) scattered four hits while striking out four for his second win of the season.

Jury Convicts Houston Woman for Straw Purchasing Firearms

McALLEN, Texas – Nayely Ruby Herrera, 21, of Houston, has been convicted of making a false statement concerning the purchase of firearms on Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Form 4473, commonly referred to as straw purchasing, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. The jury returned its verdict after two hours of trial and approximately 30 minutes of deliberation in McAllen, Texas.



DPS Enlists Public’s Help to Locate Murder Suspect

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is asking for the public’s help in finding a woman wanted in connection with the March 17 murder of a teenager in Ennis (Ellis County). Jennifer Samantha Puente, 18, is accused in the death of 15-year-old Moriah Gonzales, whose burned body was left on the side of the road in Ennis. Another suspect in the crime was arrested March 24.

Jury Finds San Juan Man Guilty of Alien Harboring

McALLEN, Texas – A federal jury sitting in McAllen, Texas, has returned verdicts of guilty against Pedro Salazar, 56, of San Juan, Texas, for conspiracy and harboring illegal aliens, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. The jury returned its verdicts after two days of trial and less than three hours of deliberation.

Weslaco Duo Convicted of Cocaine Trafficking

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Two men have admitted their guilt in the trafficking of cocaine in Weslaco, Texas, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Jose Santos Casas-Gonzalez Sr., 51, entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 29 kilograms of cocaine as well as conspiracy to commit money laundering before Senior U.S. District Judge Hayden Head today. Rogelio Mata-Ramirez, 50, pleaded guilty last month to the cocaine conspiracy.

A 49 year old man arrested and charged for felony driving while intoxicated; A 25 year old woman arrested and charged for failure to identify, prohibited substance in a correctional facility and municipal court warrants; A 36 year old man arrested and charged with an old indecency with a child by sexual contact; 2 men and 1 woman arrested and charged for failure to identify, possession of marihuana and municipal court warrants; A 17 year man was arrested and charged for possession of marihuana and abandoning and endangering a child. Update on city of Brownsville fatal bus accident

Earlier today, Investigators released the name of the bus driver involved in the fatal accident last night. He was identified as Ernesto Rosales (62). Investigators are currently investigating this tragic incident as an accident.

Results of the city of Brownsville “Click it or Ticket” campaign

On May 8, 2012, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) launched its Annual Click it or Ticket campaign at the Texas Travel Information Center in Harlingen. The Brownsville Police Department participated in the campaign and with TXDOT funding, successfully completed their efforts with a total of 686 citations issued within a period of thirteen days (May 21 thru June 3, 2012).
