Bishop Man Sentenced for Heroin and Cocaine Trafficking

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Mercedes Perez, 55, of Bishop, Texas, has been handed a 151-month federal prison sentence following his convictions for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and heroin as well as possession with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. The former reserve officer for the Nueces County Constables Office was found guilty after one day of trial on Feb. 10, 2012.

Weslaco Police Department To Replace Fleet

The City of Weslaco is dedicated to public safety by ensuring that our police force is utilizing modern police vehicles. A total of eleven (11) vehicles were purchased. Nine (9) were purchased with city issued bonds for a cost of approximately $390,000.00, and two (2) were purchased with federal grant money for a cost of approximately $77,000.00.

South Texas Couple Convicted of Bankruptcy Fraud

HOUSTON – Michael Giventer, 53, formerly of Brownsville, Texas, has just pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bankruptcy fraud, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Giventer’s wife, Julia Shavabskaya, 40, currently residing in Florida, also pleaded guilty to the same charge on April 30, 2012.
