AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, leading a multi-state coalition of 29 attorneys general, today took legal action to defend the annual National Day of Prayer. An amicus brief authored by Attorney General Abbott urges the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit to overturn a lower court ruling, which held that the National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional.

SAN ANGELO, Texas—After a 20 minute rain delay the Edinburg Roadrunners scored four runs in the eighth and ninth innings to defeat the San Angelo Colts 5-2 Thursday night at Foster Field. The win gives the Roadrunners the series split with the Colts.

Yesterday members of the National Committee to Free Ramsey Muniz met with attorney Dick DeGuerin regarding the reopening of the Ramsey Muniz case. The meeting was very positive! Our plan is to continue with the investigation of this case, and to meet again to continue discussing the legal means of gaining Ramsey’s freedom.

HARLINGEN – Thursday’s game between the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the Amarillo Dillas was postponed due to heavy rain at Harlingen Field. A makeup date has not yet been announced.

In a typical old guard, arrogant, racist fashion, Mayor Boz reverted into a time warp in last night’s city meeting. Harlingen has always had a horrible reputation when it has come to discriminating against Hispanics. History will show Harlingen use to exclude Hispanics from public pools, restaurants etc. And worse yet, there are written documents stating Hispanics weren’t allowed to walk alone in certain Harlingen neighborhoods.

WESLACO — A seminar to help new and established fruit and vegetable growers will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on July 29 at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Weslaco.

Harlingen, Texas, July 8, 2010: By Executive Order the mayor of San Francisco has banned soft drinks and flavored waters from all vending machines on public property. Posting Executive Orders banning everything from drilling oil wells to fishing in the Gulf of Mexico seems to be the new Orwellian way of implementing departmentalized marshal law in these United States. Remember the good ole days when the people actually voted for those things they wanted or rejected?

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today sent a demand letter instructing Travelers Insurance (The Travelers Companies Inc.) to cease and desist the airing of a deceptive television advertisement. According to the attorney general’s letter, the ad improperly indicates that Texas homeowners should purchase additional motor vehicle insurance or risk losing their homes if they have inadequate insurance after a vehicle accident. The attorney general demands that the advertisement be removed from all Texas television media markets as well as any print, multimedia, radio or computer-generated ads that appear in the state.

McAllen, TX—McAllen city leaders plan to host a grand opening of the Northwest McAllen Police Community Network & Training Center, located at 29th Street and Oxford Avenue, Friday, July 9, at 10 am.

McALLEN – The aftermath of Hurricane Alex left behind a devastated Monterrey, Mexico. The hurricane caused flooding beyond imagine and power outages to thousands of people. Photos taken of the area depict a Monterrey that is unrecognizable. Streets, bridges and highways seem to have disappeared. Some people have lost their homes by the tremendous flow of water that ripped through the streets.

Hours after the Texas Most Wanted Sex Offender list was released to the public, DPS officers arrested one of the men featured on it.
