HARLINGEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE…A WASTED INVESTMENT
In the next few weeks, the city commission will have their annual budget meetings. During these meetings, departments present their budgets and Commissioners decide how much to fund. Commissioners are concerned because money is tight…real tight. Harlingen’s lackluster past has caught up with them. We could go on and criticize the old guard for lack of vision and growth, but we won’t. Instead, we should deal with the failures of the past without sugar coating reality.

Yesterday the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that tar balls from BP’s Deepwater Horizon were located on Texas shores. While we do not yet know–and cannot yet calculate–the ultimate damage this ecological and economic disaster will inflict upon the state of Texas, we do know that BP will be held fully financially accountable for the costs incurred by the taxpayers when state and local governments engage in clean-up and response efforts.

CRIME STOPPERS CRIME
The Harlingen Area Crime Stoppers is asking for your assistance in helping to locate person(s) involved in a Burglary of 44 Storage Units. The burglary occurred at the Rio Storage located at 103 North Stuart Place Road, Harlingen, Texas between Friday, July 02, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 03, 2010 at 7:20 a.m. Unknown person (s) entered the compound through the northwest gate. Once inside, the unknown person (s) opened the locked storage unit’s doors. Unknown person(s) gathered several items and took the items to the vehicle which was parked on the outside of the compound. The vehicle became stuck in the wet soil. Another vehicle was brought to pull the vehicle out. Both vehicles then left the area.
