Mr Wilson has put forth the facts very well, indeed! You can front all the Hispanic candidates you want, but if the population doesn't come out and vote, then they have no right to complain. You make it sound like it's all race and it's not. The average Harlingenite is not politically involved and doesn't want to be part of the process. As a teacher, I see that attitude in the young people...it's all a matter of "what's in it for me" and "how can I get it for free".
Until the Hispanics stop acting like the crabs in that dicho--and if you're a REAL Hispanic, Mr. Medrano, you'll know which one--and keep dragging each other down, then REAL change will not happen. I for one do not want to see Harlingen become another "Crystal City".....

"The people love a mover and shaker, a maker of events, an emotionalist.."

This is more Sara Palin antics than Hillary Clinton. I need to ask though,

1) Where are all these 85% Hispanics on voting days? The harlingen election is decided by less than 2000 people give or take out of a population of 60,000.. yes some are kids and 10,000 are illegal but that still leaves a whole lot of beans eligible to take time from watching the Cowboys to vote. You can have Hispanic candidates all you want, but if only a couple Hispanic voters come out to validate the candidacy then its still not a representation that the people have spoken. Its is just validating that someone's pachanga's were better than others.

2) You can't put the blame on the gringo commissioners. They put themselves on and ballot and did what they had to get it done. You can't say that funds are the problem. Zamora has spent most than any candidate in history and still can't get voted in. It seems to be who can do the best selling.

3) Hispanic voters need to take a page from ex-San Antonio mayor Cisneros (before the affair), current S.A. mayor - Castro and yes current USA president Obama. Regardless of what your politics are against them, they were able to get votes from across the spectrum. If I was a hispanic commissioner (which I have no desire to be), I would want to know that I had just as much confidence from the whites, the indian doctors, and the chinese buffet owners as I do the peeps. Our peeps have a history of eating their own and I think that is a fact that does not escape many a hispanic who first thinks about and then decides not to enter politics.

I hope the people that are being backed by the organizers of this site can put forth some hispanic candidates who down the line will not follow suit the bozos that plague the school districs of BISD, Donna, Edcouch Elsa, Hidalgo County and so on who end up getting caught up in the egos, fraud cases and suing their respective boards at the end.

To: the Commissioners of Harlingen

It is not even done in concentration camps and labor camps. In those we see its final result.
But it is conceived and ordered; moved, seconded, carried and minuted in clear, carpeted, warmed, and well lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smoothshaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. These of course are the Gringos and their Gringo/coconuts.

Well, because these quiet (pendejos or pendejas) men do not raise their voices, because they sometimes speak in
soothing tones of brotherhood and peace, because, like other
dictators (mayors) before them, they're always making "their final territorial
demand," some would have us accept them at their word and
accommodate ourselves to their aggressive impulses. But if history teaches anything, it teaches that simpleminded appeasement or wishful
thinking about our adversaries is folly.
It means the betrayal of our past, the squandering of our freedom, our equality, our equal opportunities, and the mindset attitude of racial discrimination by the majority of white people.
So, I urge you to speak out against those laws and people who would place our citizens/community in a position of physical and mental inferiority. I urge you to beware the temptation of pride the temptation to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an
individual drunk with power.

I ask you to resist the attempts of those who would have you withhold your
support for our efforts, this blog's efforts, to keep our community strong and free, while we negotiate real and
verifiable results in our communities’s efforts to have a city hall that is united and dedicated to the fulfillment of having a city dedicated to our citizens as a whole and one day, with God's help, the total elimination of mindset Gringos and Gringo/coconuts from politics.

People equate politicians with thieves and no shame people who get caught committing illegal activities and continue to seek office. That is primarily the reason people do not seek office. If it is true that Kori is going to run and she has befriended Chris and Larry well once they are gone what is she going to do? We are looking for equality and unity for the Hispanic people and she is not Hispanic, and she is not a uniter, she sells homes, except for saying what a wonderful man Craig Lonon was, what has she done for the city? How is she helping the plight of the Hispanics, by ignoring them? Kori means nothing to me I do not care one way or the other but a super politician she is not. We are trying to stop the good old boy and girl political circuses not try to restart it. These people putting them selves up for scrutiny had better be clean. No under the table deals because it will come out into the open. There are "secrets" everywhere downtown activities are better known that people think.

Like I said, first J.J. Gonzalez and know Kori. Why do we have such poor elected officials in Harlingen?

IT is my opinion that Kori Marra City Commissioner of district 3 does not have the backing to run for Mayor. She does not have the experience and she picked to side with the good old boys who are going out.The real Estate market is not doing much so financing might be another problem. Our Mayor Chris Boswell has been posted on a blog called El Rocinante. The caption under a picture of Mayor Chris Boswell reads "Chris Boswell to open KKK museum in 2010." Every one now knows what I have been stating all along this town is full of disdain for the Hispanic community. Larry Galbreath threw the latest insult with the Centennial and the Book which lift out the 85% Hispanic Citizenry.
